Having recently read and reviewed the other significant release on Go The Go Programming Language it s only fair that now I m nearing the end of this book that I do the same Put simply, this book is excellent With many technical books I often find myself drifting off as I try to absorb the dry written word I must be getting old but not so here The authors have a knack for describing complex topics in a very clear manner The chapters on concurrency in particular I found very well written As a technical book it isn t so long as to make you feel like you re plodding through War and Peace but each topic is given just enough coverage to leave you with a great foundation to go and explore further Having read both books, if I had to choose one it would have to be this one just, but in truth they are both essential reads An essential purchase for Go developers everywhere.

I have been programming in Go for two years and wanted to take a bit of a dive into some grey areas in my Go knowledge This book was an excellent read, covering both basics and advanced topics very clearly Would recommend

A good introduction to the Go programming language, but some aspects aren t always very clear for those not coming from a C background As a Java developer I did find one or two things confusing around pointers, and null and zero values, which weren t very well explained.

I was looking for an introduction to Go as an experienced programmer in other languages This book is aimed at people with previous programming experience so moves at a quicker pace through the different parts of the language rather than getting bogged down in basic hello world style code and this suited me The authors explain concepts in an easily digested manner, with sample code that they walk through step by step so you feel you have a clear grasp of what each line is achieving and why it is structured the way it is The amount of code in the book meant that I came away feeling familiar with the syntax and parts of the language which differ from what I m used to in languages I use day to day such as Java and Scala. The code samples feel realistic and not contrived The code outlined in the concurrency patterns chapter of particular note.I enjoyed the fact that each design decision in Go was explained so I came away understanding why the language is what it is It makes you think about the decisions in the other languages you use especially where they differ Considering the amount of ground the book covers the fact it is so easily read and understood show the effort which has gone in to creating the book Technical books can easily become dry and hard to get through It has given me the building blocks to start writing my own programs and explore the language further.
