[[ epub pdf ]] Antennas and Propagation for Wireless Communication SystemsAuthor Simon R Saunders – Mariahilff.de

Antennas and propagation are of fundamental importance to the coverage, capacity and quality of all wireless communication systems This book provides a solid grounding in antennas and propagation, covering terrestrial and satellite radio systems in both mobile and fixed contexts Building on the highly successful first edition, this fully updated text features significant new material and brand new exercises and supplementary materials to support course tutors A vital source of information for practising and aspiring wireless communication engineers as well as for students at postgraduate and senior undergraduate levels, this book provides a fundamental grounding in the principles of antennas and propagation without excessive recourse to mathematics It also equips the reader with practical prediction techniques for the design and analysis of a very wide range of common wireless communication systems Including Overview of the fundamental electromagnetic principles underlying propagation and antennas Basic concepts of antennas and their application to specific wireless systems Propagation measurement, modelling and prediction for fixed links, macrocells, microcells, picocells and megacells Narrowband and wideband channel modelling and the effect of the channel on communication system performance Methods that overcome and transform channel impairments to enhance performance using diversity, adaptive antennas and equalisers Key second edition updates New chapters on Antennas for Mobile Systems and Channel Measurements for Mobile Radio Systems Coverage of new technologies, including MIMO antenna systems, Ultra Wideband UWB and the OFDM technology used in Wi Fi and WiMax systems Many new propagation models for macrocells, microcells and picocells Fully revised and expanded end of chapter exercises The Solutions Manual can be requested from

This second edition brings together many interesting aspects which were not covered in the first edition Keeping the mathematics to a minumum which is one of the objectives of the authors , it covers all aspects of radiowave propagation with sufficient references for the interested reader, bringing new models for emerging technologies, which make it extremely useful for practical applications Also, it devotes a great amount of pages to radio design and practical aspects from the vast experience of the authors in this field something that is not often found in many text books of this type As far as antennas is concerned, it dedicates a whole new chapter on mobile antennas and discussed issues related to MIMO systems, a yet exciting technology which has reached its peak in the research world. Finally, loads of solutions and worked problems are available for lecturers, which make it a definitely valuable source of information.N.B those seeking a speficic book on antenna theory or radiowave propagation with a deeper mathematical background and emphasis should refer to other references.

I received a copy of Dr Saunders book as part of the Antennas Course run at Surrey University In contrast to the other reviewers of this book, I can only rate it at three stars The text is aimed at bringing the concepts of mobile communication propagation across an aim which it acheives without recourse to too much mathematical rigour This strength, in my opinion, is also its major shortfall those looking for a in depth coverage of antenna theory and design will be disappointed I doubt antenna designers will find themselves referring to this book too often For those involved in propagation planning it is indeed a valuable reference.

A very excellent book of fundamental principles of antennas and propagation It is easy to read and follow, and is highly recommended for both students and developers who need to recap the fundamentals.
